Good morning all! Has everyone been able to process all of the madness from Friday’s first round? There’s nothing like the opening round when results are flying and nearly every team around the section is competing. But when the dust settled, we only had one road team win — No. 11 Yorktown in Class A — with the higher seeds taking care of business and avoiding early upsets. For the most part, that’s what I expected, but I certainly didn’t expect to hit on 91 percent of my picks (21 for 23).
As we get deeper into the playoffs, wins will surely be harder to come by. And it will also be tough to decide on which games to cover. Since it’s the latest start of the day, I’m thinking that I’ll finish up at Yorktown-Hen Hud on Monday, but which game should I hit before that? Port Chester vs. New Rochelle may be the most fun to watch with tons of skilled players all over the field. Byram Hills and Pelham have had a budding rivalry in recent years, with Pelham knocking out the Bobcats in the semis last season on its way to the Class A title. In Class B, unbeaten Irvington will begin its run with a very tough game against a better-than-your-average-8-seed Valhalla team, and Bronxville will host three-time champ Blind Brook in a rematch of last year’s title game. So, leave your thoughts on which game you’d like to see me cover below, and I’ll be tomorrow with a look ahead to the quarterfinals.
Here are all of the start times for Monday’s games:
No. 8 Fox Lane at No. 1 Arlington, 3 p.m.
No. 7 New Rochelle vs. No. 2 Port Chester at Purchase College, 3 p.m.
