We have two pretty big events going on during this holiday weekend, and both will be fundraising for a great cause.
The second annual Westchester vs. Rockland Challenge will move across the river this year, with Tappan Zee hosting an event which will feature six games over the course of two days. I’ll be there on Saturday, when Pearl River will play Lakeland at 2:30 p.m., Suffern will take on New Rochelle at 4:30 and North Rockland will close out the day with a showdown against Mamaroneck. The main event, if you will, should be the PR-Lakeland game, which will feature the top two teams from Class A in the current Lohud Boys Soccer rankings. Monday’s games will be Nyack vs. Saunders at 10 a.m., Spring Valley vs. White Plains at noon and TZ vs. Harrison at 2 p.m.
On Monday, I’ll be at Valhalla HS for the inaugural Section 1 vs. Section 9 Challenge. The day will feature five games with top teams from both sections, with half of the teams involved currently ranked in the state. The matchups will be Byram Hills vs. Cornwall (10 a.m.), Bronxville vs. Rhinebeck (12:15 p.m.), Lakeland vs. Goshen (2:30 p.m.), Mamaroneck vs. Newburgh (4:45 p.m.) and Valhalla vs. Spackenkill (7 p.m.).
Both events will be held to raise money for breast cancer research and awareness. Proceeds will go to the American Cancer Society, with thousands of dollars expected to be donated. I encourage everyone to come out to support a great cause! The soccer shouldn’t be too bad, either…
