It was a relatively light week for most teams, but it wasn’t lacking in Player of the Week candidates. Mamaroneck’s Yeison Benegas, Solomon Schechter’s Ari Leffell, Pleasantville’s Jonathan Kyriakidis and Pearl River’s Vincenzo Galvano were all strong candidates, but Rye Neck’s Luis Galeano was the ultimate choice.
The Panthers scored five goals while going 2-0 this week, and Galeano was responsible for each of them. He scored the lone goal in Monday’s 1-0 win over Dobbs Ferry and scored all four in Sunday’s 4-0 win over Ardsley, taking over for Rye Neck offensively.
“More than just the goals he scores, Luis does a lot of other things during the course of a game that helps us win,” co-coach Bryan Iacovelli said. “He is an unselfish player who has the ability to score a clutch goal, or make a big play in the midfield or defensive third of the field.”
