When Keio takes the field, it doesn’t take its opponent’s record into consideration.
For Unicorns coach David Martinez, it was no different hosting Woodlands, which had won eight games with only one loss an 8-1 record before Friday’s game.
“We play game by game and don’t know what to expect, but what we do is emphasize hard work to our players,” Martinez said.
Ball distribution and making sure the open man got touches were the things that worked for Keio. Takahiro Asai, Ryuichido Sekido and Shunya Izumi each scored in the Unicorns’ 3-1 win.
“Nothing was spectacular, but we distributed the ball around the whole field,” Martinez said. “We made everybody play and forced the other team to work at trying to get the ball.”
Prince Kermue scored for Woodlands.
“We made a couple of mistakes,” Martinez said. “We stayed strong and had strong defensive play. We threw them out of their game because we didn’t let them control the ball.”
