Team preview: Tappan Zee

0

This year will be about earning back some respect around the section for Tappan Zee after a 2012 season that left the Dutchmen on the outside looking in for sectionals. To help turn the page, TZ will have a new coach in Jon Jacobs. He’ll be taking on a young team, but he will have the luxury of an experienced goalkeeper. Jacobs’ first goal is to get the Dutchmen back into the Class A tournament.

Here are the responses that I received from Jacobs:

umanaWhat was your final record last season and where did you finish in the playoffs? 2-13-1.

Who are your key returning players? Juan Umana, Senior, GK (pictured to the right); Chris Goldstein, Junior, FWD; Eoghan O’Brien, Senior,  MF; Devin Doran, Senior, MF.

Who are the key players that you lost to graduation? Mike Trinkoff and Tim Ehardt.

Are you anticipating losing any players to the U.S. Soccer Federation season? No players lost to USSF.

What do you consider to be your team’s strengths? Goalkeeping and team defending.

What are some areas of concern? Youth in central midfield.

Which formation do you anticipate using? 3-4-1-2.

What is your goal for your team in 2013? Qualify for sectional play.

Who is your biggest rival(s)? Pearl River.
