Lakeland wins season opener on Labor Day; four games scheduled for Tuesday

In the first official game of the 2013 Section 1 boys soccer season on Labor Day, Lakeland got off to a strong start with a 6-0 win at home over Putnam Valley. Six different players scored for the Hornets — Mike O’driscoll, Nunzio Cassese, Matteo Daniele, Gino Cassese, Devin Flanagan and Matias Prando — while Johnny Denis came through with three assists.

There are four games scheduled to be played on Tuesday, including the first round of the Mount Pleasant Cup.
