At this point, most of you know the deal with Port Chester. Last year’s Class A state finalists have been bumped up to Class AA this season, which should really shake up the section title picture in both classes. I visited with the Rams last week, but now we’ll get some perspective on the upcoming season from their coach.
Here are the words of coach John Cafaldo:
Who are your key returning players? Steven Hernandez, Forward/Midfield, Sophomore; Alejandro Coyt, Midfield, Senior; Josiah Marin, Center Back, Senior; Kevin Londono, Right Back, Junior; Luis Morales, Forward, Junior.
Who are the key players that you lost to graduation? Jose Gonzalez (playing at Iona; pictured to the right); Bryan Suertegaray (playing at Hunter); Preston Higgins (playing at Herkimer); William Ribeiro; Alexis Valdovinos.
Are you anticipating losing any players to the U.S. Soccer Federation season? None yet.
What do you consider to be your team’s strengths? Hopefully our ability to possess the ball and find the open player to create opportunities.
What are some areas of concern? We are young and have to replace great, experienced players, as well as the move up to AA.
Which formation do you anticipate using? 4-4-2 or 4-5-1
What is your goal for your team in 2013? We are looking to make a deep run in the playoffs and possible state tournament in AA. Moving up to the next level is going to be a challenge that we have to face head on with the departure of so many experienced players. We will need some young players to step up and fill those shoes if we expect to make a run.
Who is your biggest rival(s)? Byram Hills.
